Types of gun sounds
- Handgun and pistol shots: single shots, double taps and rapid fire, plus the click of cocking a Glock.
- Rifle and sniper shots: heavier, longer shots recorded outdoors. For the Dragunov sniper, see the SVD gun sounds.
- Machine gun bursts: automatic fire and short bursts for war scenes and action games.
- Gun battles: full firefight ambiences with several weapons, great as background.
- Toy and laser guns: toy machine guns and sci-fi blasters for kids' content, cartoons and space games.
- Reload and handling: cocking, loading, empty clicks and shell drops, the details that make a scene feel real.
Tips for realistic gunfire in your edits
A single shot sounds much bigger with a short tail of echo, so look for exterior recordings when the scene is outdoors. Layer a reload or cocking sound just before the shot for tension, and add a bullet impact or explosion for the hit. In gaming montages, sync each shot exactly with the muzzle flash.
Need just one shot from a burst? Open the sound in the free Audio Cutter and trim it. You can also turn a gunshot into a notification sound with the Ringtone Maker.
